Description: interesting 1860s image showing the rear of the Daibutsu or Great Buddha at Kotokuin Temple in Kamakura with bamboo scaffolding around it. This image is unattributed, but due to the skillfull techinique of the photographer it ws most likely done by a foreign photographer. Additionally, this image was published overseas which during the 1860s was a sales outlet few Japanese photographers had access to. Ornate gilding around the edges of the print, letterpress caption on the reverse (see below).
