Description: in 1942 and 1943 Matsugi photographed the Kaigun Heigakko, the naval academy located on the island of Etajima and the Seto Inland Sea. This was published as a book in 1943 and simply titled "Kaigun Heigakko". Interesting, Matsugi photographed this project entirely on Leica cameras and lenses, which he details in the forward of his book.

This print is from the June 1942 issue of the Japanese photography magazine Shashin Bunka (Photography Culture). It is printed on Japan tissue and in excellent condition.

Was granted special status as naval jourmnalist. More recently an exhibition from his Kaigun Heigakko project was held at the JCII Camera Salan/Japan Camera Museum in Tokyo in July, 2001.
