Description: very large print showing semi nude coalminers who toiled away in harsh and hot conditions during Japan's industrial age. This photo is hand colored and signed by the artist.

This image was also used for a photo montage that was published in the Japanese history book Nihon Seso Hyakunen-shi, published in 1955 (see below).

A wonderful example of Japanese pictorialism!
